Internal surveys and measured floor plans in Perth

An internal survey is an accurate measured plan of the inside of a home or commercial building. Owners, designers and architects use it for renovations, extensions and fit-outs, so the design starts from measured walls, not guesses. That means fewer surprises on site.

When do you need an internal survey?

  • You are renovating, and your designer needs the existing layout.
  • Your extension joins onto the existing house.
  • You are fitting out a shop, office or other commercial space.
  • You have no reliable plans of the building, or the old ones no longer match what was built.

What do you get from an internal survey?

A measured floor plan, scoped to your needs and budget. It shows:

  • walls, doors, windows, columns, partitions and wet areas
  • door swings, and the position of each window

It is delivered as an electronic 2D DWG floor plan. On request we add a PDF with window, door, eave, ridge and ceiling heights relative to floor level.

How does an internal survey work?

  1. Ask for a quote. Send us the property address and type (home or commercial), your contact details, what the plan is for, and whether you need heights. We do not quote over the phone, so the online form is the quickest way.
  2. Get a written quote within 48 hours.
  3. We measure the building. Once you accept, we arrange a time to get inside, and a surveyor measures each room. Most surveys are done within about two weeks of booking.
  4. You get the plan. We email it to you.

What else do people ask about internal surveys?

Internal survey or contour survey: which do I need?

It depends on where the work is:

  • Building outwards or adding a separate structure: a contour and feature survey.
  • Renovating inside: an internal survey.
  • An extension that joins the house: usually both, and we can do them in one visit.

Why would my designer ask for heights?

Heights help your designer line new rooflines, windows and doors up with the old ones. Ask for them if you are adding a storey, or joining a new roof onto the existing house.

Can my designer draw straight over the plan?

Yes. The DWG is drawn at scale, so your designer or architect can draw the new layout over it in their own CAD software.

Do you need to get into every room?

Into every room that goes on the plan. If some rooms are tenanted or off-limits, tell us when you ask for a quote and we will scope the plan around them.

Does an internal survey show my boundaries?

No. It covers the inside of the building only. The block and its levels are on a contour and feature survey, and your title corners need a boundary re-peg.

Areas: We work across all of Perth, north to Guilderton, east to Northam and Brookton, and through the South West as far as Bridgetown and Augusta. See South West surveys.
